The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has stepped up its special sanitation drive aimed at improving cleanliness and public hygiene across the city. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and engineers of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) wing to ensure the effective and time-bound execution of sanitation programmes. On the third consecutive day of the drive, large-scale cleaning operations were undertaken along roadsides, dividers, central medians and kerbs across Greater Hyderabad. The Commissioner on Wednesday conducted field-level inspections in Adibatla, Kongara Kalan and Bongulur areas under the Shamshabad zone, reviewing the progress and quality of sanitation works.
As part of a phased and systematic approach, Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) were cleaned on the first day of the drive, followed by the cleaning of flyovers on the second day. Addressing officials, commissioner Karnan stressed the need for greater coordination and focused efforts by Zonal and Deputy Commissioners, along with SWM engineers, to further enhance sanitation standards. He instructed officials to strictly adhere to schedules for upcoming sanitation activities, including the cleaning of lakes and nalas, maintenance of footpaths and parks, removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and clearance of garbage accumulated near transformers and electric poles.
The Commissioner underscored that sustained monitoring and proactive field-level action were essential to achieve visible and long-term improvements in urban cleanliness.
Zonal Commissioner Chandrakala and other senior officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
