GHMC steps up road repairs ahead of Ganesh immersions

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is accelerating road repair works across the city as part of its ongoing Road Safety Drive. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow and enhance public safety by addressing potholes, catch pits, and central median issues on major roads.

As of August 30, GHMC identified 13,534 potholes citywide, of which 10,854 have been repaired. In addition, 532 catch pits have been fixed, 306 manhole covers replaced, and nine central median works completed. The repair efforts have been monitored personally by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, who has instructed teams to speed up the work in view of the upcoming Ganesh immersion festivities.

Zone-wise, LB Nagar reported 2,934 potholes, with 2,455 repaired, while Charminar had 2,280 identified and 1,879 fixed. Khairtabad recorded 1,786 potholes, with 1,408 addressed, and Serilingampally reported 1,938, of which 1,294 were repaired. Kukatpally saw 1,961 potholes identified, with 1,726 repaired, and Secunderabad had 2,635, with 2,092 fixed.

Commissioner Karnan has emphasized the importance of completing repairs promptly to ensure safe and smooth Ganesh immersion processions, urging engineering teams to maintain high efficiency and coordination across all zones.
