In view of the monsoon season and rising risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya, the GHMC Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) conducted refresher training programmes for entomology field staff from 9 to 11 June.

The trainings were held in five batches covering Secunderabad, Golconda, Charminar, Shamshabad, Khairatabad and Rajendranagar zones.

Around 900 officials, Assistant Medical Officers of Health (AMOHs), senior entomologists, Ward Entomology Supervisors (WESs) and field staff participated.

The programme was chaired by GHMC Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Amar Singh, while Additional Director (Health) Dr K. Padmaja attended as chief guest. They stressed strengthening pre-monsoon awareness, field surveillance and coordination among departments.

The sessions focused on identification and elimination of mosquito breeding sites, anti-larval operations, fogging, surveillance methods, record maintenance, emergency response and IEC activities to improve awareness.
