Lt General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command (ARTRAC), visited the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) here on Thursday to review its training, research, and innovation initiatives.
During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on MCEME’s role in supporting the Indian Army’s Decade of Transformation, emphasizing innovation, indigenisation, and excellence in technical training to ensure operational readiness. He reviewed various faculties and was updated on contemporary training methods, ongoing research, and development in areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, drones, additive manufacturing, electronic warfare, and modern communication technologies.
Lt Gen Sharma inaugurated the Indian Army’s first Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, ‘Rachnalaya,’ a state-of-the-art facility enabling advanced metal and polymer 3D printing of critical spares. The centre is expected to enhance self-reliance, lifecycle support, and operational preparedness across the Army’s diverse platforms.
During the visit, the Army Commander also interacted with veterans and serving soldiers, acknowledging their contributions to the force. Five personnel were awarded on-the-spot Commendation Cards in recognition of their exemplary performance.
