Doctors at Medicover Women & Child Hospitals said on Thursday that the “golden hour” is critical in saving lives as early detection of issues in the womb protects infants. They made it clear that every minute counts in high-risk pregnancies and preterm babies . Senior medical experts from Medicover Women & Child Hospitals have highlighted that the lack of timely specialized care in districts like Nizamabad during high-risk pregnancies and preterm deliveries is impacting the health of mothers and newborns.
According to national health statistics, one in every ten babies is born prematurely, and many of these require neonatal care within the first hour after birth—the so-called "Golden Hour"—to improve survival and long-term outcomes. Against this backdrop, senior neonatologist Dr. Ravinder Reddy Parige and pediatric surgeon Dr. Madhu Mohan Reddy from Medicover Women & Child Hospitals in Hyderabad detailed the medical management of high-risk mothers and preterm infants.
Dr. Ravinder Reddy Parige, Head of Department (HOD) for Neonatology and Pediatrics, emphasized that early identification of problems in high-risk pregnancies and newborns, followed by referral to appropriate centers, leads to better treatment results. Dr. Madhu Mohan Reddy, Senior Pediatric Surgeon, noted that congenital surgical conditions detected during pregnancy or immediately after birth can be safely managed through coordinated efforts among obstetricians, neonatologists, and pediatric surgeons.
Dr. Tejaswi, Gynecologist and Obstetrician, stressed the importance of identifying high-risk pregnancies in the early stages. Conditions such as severe anemia, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, and fetal growth restriction often show warning signs before delivery.
