The two-day Gorantla Kalotsavam(Festival of Arts) held at Gorantla in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh has infused new enthusiasm among the artists. The Cultural festival held under the aegis of Viswambhara Cultural Society and Andhra Pradesh Creative and Cultural Society, and presided over by historian MyNaa Swamy, provided a platform for rural artists. The SLN function hall was filled with the sounds of kommulu(horns), urumulu, tappetlu, tabla, harmonium, and bhajans.
Keelugurram, kolatam, chekka bhajana, tala bhajana, kuchipudi, bharathanatyam, mono-acting, and ‘namaala singadu’ with exotic costumes and characters entertained the audience.Keelugurram-Artist Naresh, who hails from Subbaraopeta near Dharmavaram, enthralled the audience.The horn and trumpet players of Mallappalli Kothapalli specially exhibited their talent. The kolatam dance performed by the female artists was awe-inspiring. The folk songs sung by Munemma, the drama poems sung by Vadigepalli Narasimhamurthy, and the social songs sung by teacher Jagadish's disciple team were impressive.
The dance performances by the Gorantla girls and Mylaram Veda Pragna, Hemisha, Ritima, magic by teacher Teja of Roddam enthralled the audience. Kammavaripalli women's Kolatam, Kammalavandlapalli artistes' Chekka Bhajana, Chonduruvandlapalli devotees' Taalam Bhajana, Vanavolu Narayana Tappetlu, Kolimpalli artistes' Virata Parvam 'street play were appreciated by the audience.
Hindupur MP B.K.Parthasarathy has promised to support rural artists through various government schemes. MP has congratulated MyNaa Swamy for his efforts in making the festival a grand success. Indian Red Cross district Chairman G.M. Suresh, and Viswambhara Cultural Society executive members Nagabhushana, Anjaneyulu, and Jagadish, among others, actively participated in the festival.
