Metro India News | Vijayawada : Andhra Pradesh Governor and President of the TB Association of Andhra Pradesh S. Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday launched the 77th TB Seal Sale campaign at Lok Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said tuberculosis remains a major health challenge despite advances in its prevention and treatment. The fight against TB must extend beyond medical care to include awareness, early diagnosis, prevention, nutrition, social support and community participation.
"144 years ago the causative organism of Tuberculosis was discovered by Sir Robert Koch and in spite of significant advancements made for its control, it continues to be a killer disease", the Governor noted. He highlighted the Centre’s TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which seeks a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to eliminate TB from India ahead of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goal.
Appealing to citizens, educational institutions, industries, corporate houses, voluntary organisations and philanthropists, the Governor urged them to contribute generously to the TB Seal campaign and strengthen efforts to eradicate the disease.
Dr. Arun Kumar Kanti Mohanty, Dr. P.S. Sarma, Patrons, Dr. Kodali Ramakrishna, Dr. B Masilamani, Vice Chairmen, Dr. P. Jayakar Babu, General Secretary, Dr. T. Ramesh, Joint Director & Hon. Secretary of TB Association of Andhra Pradesh, P.S. Surya Prakash, Joint Secretary to Governor, and other dignitaries have attended the programme.
