The Telangana government has announced a key reform to strengthen Gurukul and Residential Schools functioning under SC, ST, BC, Minority Welfare, and Education Departments. To improve living and learning conditions for students from marginalized communities, the government has streamlined the release of funds for diet charges, cosmetic charges, and building rents.

Previously, payments were delayed by nearly 8–9 months, creating difficulties in the smooth functioning of hostels and schools. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu took special interest in resolving the issue, first ensuring quarterly releases and now reducing the cycle further to monthly payments. This initiative was also highlighted during the 2026–27 Budget presentation.

The monthly release of funds will ensure uninterrupted supply of nutritious food, proper hostel maintenance, timely rent payments, and provision of essential amenities. The move is expected to significantly enhance student welfare, learning outcomes, and the overall academic environment. Both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister reiterated their commitment to quality education, better residential facilities, and holistic development opportunities for students from deprived sections.

As of May 17, 2026, the government has released Rs. 221.24 crore across departments. SC Welfare received Rs. 41.21 crore, ST Welfare Rs. 110.15 crore, BC Welfare Rs. 28.18 crore, Minority Welfare Rs. 29.65 crore, and the Education Department Rs. 12.05 crore. This ensures uninterrupted support for nutrition, accommodation, and overall well-being of students.
