Grain prices remained largely steady across key spot markets on Monday, with traders expecting wheat prices to rise from August due to stronger festival demand, while maize and rice prices may also gain depending on weather and export demand.
Wheat prices in Indore, Indore, remained unchanged at ₹2,640 per 100 kg. Traders said prices stayed stable because supply remained steady while demand was limited.
Arrivals of the rabi crop continue at a normal pace after government procurement ended in the state.
Market participants said millers and traders are currently buying only as needed, keeping prices range-bound. However, demand is expected to improve from August as the festive season begins, which could push wheat prices higher.
A sharp price jump is unlikely due to ample stock availability. In Navi Mumbai’s Vashi market, wheat prices also remained steady at ₹2,700 per 100 kg. Traders said the market is balanced, with no major change in arrivals or demand.
Maize prices in Indore stayed flat at ₹2,175 per 100 kg. Traders said both supply and demand remained limited. However, delayed monsoon and below-normal rainfall could affect kharif sowing, potentially reducing production and supporting prices in the coming months.
In Davanagere, maize traded at ₹1,800–₹2,050 per 100 kg. Rice prices also remained stable in Vashi. Basmati rice prices may rise soon on hopes of stronger demand from West Asia, especially after improving geopolitical conditions that could support export activity.
Overall, grain prices remain stable for now, but festival demand, monsoon progress, and export recovery will remain key factors deciding the price direction of wheat, maize, and rice ahead.
