The Telangana High Court has raised concerns over the state government's issuance of a Government Order (GO) allocating 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BC) in local body elections, while a related bill remains pending with the Governor. Hearing a petition filed by social activist B. Madhava Reddy, the court questioned the propriety of issuing the GO amidst the pending bill.

The court emphasized that reservations must adhere to the 50% ceiling rule. The Advocate General faced multiple queries from the bench, which suggested postponing local elections for 10 days to avoid judicial intervention. The court directed the government to clarify its stance and postponed the case to October 8, as requested by the Advocate General.

The court further advised delaying election notifications until the matter is resolved, warning that premature actions could complicate the process. The ongoing case highlights the legal scrutiny over the BC quota hike, with the High Court stressing compliance with established reservation norms.
