In the wake of the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of moderate to heavy rains in several districts, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has placed the entire state administration on high alert.
The IMD has predicted heavy rains in Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Vikarabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam districts. According to reports, 15 districts recorded heavy rainfall, while others received normal rainfall. Jagtial district, which earlier reported deficit rainfall this monsoon, has now been receiving heavy rains since last night.
The Chief Minister reviewed the situation with senior officials on Saturday morning and directed the deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams in advance. He instructed district Collectors to coordinate with these teams to ensure effective relief and rescue operations in rain-affected areas.
Emphasizing public safety, Revanth ordered that families in low-lying areas be shifted to relief camps to prevent loss of life. The Irrigation Department has been tasked with continuously monitoring reservoirs, canals, and ponds, and alerting Collectors before releasing floodwaters. Sandbags will be kept ready at full reservoirs and water bodies to contain damage. Police and Revenue officials have been instructed to set up barricades and restrict movement on submerged roads, low-lying bridges, and causeways.
He further directed Municipal, Urban, and Village Administration departments to conduct sanitation drives to check the spread of water- and vector-borne diseases in areas with stagnant water.
The Health Department has been asked to stockpile medicines and set up medical camps in vulnerable areas. CM also took stock of the situation in Greater Hyderabad and ordered GHMC, HYDRAA, SDRF, and Fire Services to respond immediately to public distress calls. He urged all concerned departments—Revenue, Electricity, Panchayat Raj, Roads & Buildings, Health, Municipal Administration, Police, and Fire Services—to work in close coordination during the heavy rains.
Reiterating the government’s priority to safeguard lives, property, and livestock, the Chief Minister stressed that all officials and field staff must remain accessible and alert until the rainfall situation subsides.
