Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said Hindus and Muslims were equal to him and described the two communities as his ‘two eyes’, stressing the Congress government’s commitment to minority welfare and equal opportunities.

Addressing the ‘Minorities Excellence Summit’ at Komaram Bheem Adivasi Bhavan in Banjara Hills, Revanth Reddy said the Congress had demonstrated through its actions that Hindus and Muslims were equal partners in the country’s development. He recalled that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had also demonstrated this principle in action.

The Chief Minister highlighted the Congress government’s implementation of four per cent reservation for minorities, saying the government had firmly protected the quota despite opposition. Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s earlier statement that the BJP would remove the four per cent minority reservation if it came to power in Telangana, Revanth Reddy said the Congress had challenged the BJP to first implement such a move in Gujarat.

He said minority youth had benefited from the government’s recruitment initiatives and secured jobs through Group 1 and Group 2 examinations. The government, he added, had ensured representation for minorities in key institutions, including the appointment of a minority community member to the Telangana Public Service Commission.

Revanth Reddy said his government had pursued the recruitment process despite legal challenges aimed at stalling Group examinations and appointments, ultimately approaching the Supreme Court and completing the process.

“Even though no one asked, we provided minorities the place they deserved,” he said, pointing to the appointment of Azharuddin as a minister. He also cited the government’s decision to offer boxer Nikhat Zareen a Group 1-level government job and a cash prize of Rs 3 crore, besides amending rules to facilitate a DSP-level job for cricketer Mohammed Sirajuddin.

The Chief Minister urged minority youth to complement formal education with job-oriented skills. Countries such as Germany and Japan, he said, offered significant employment opportunities for skilled youth. He said the state had established a Skills University to equip students with relevant capabilities. “Learn skills; they will transform your lives,” he told the youth.

Revanth Reddy also appealed to Congress workers and minority leaders to remain vigilant over voters’ rights amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. He alleged that attempts were being made to delete voters’ names and said some political forces were claiming that Telangana would be their next target after their electoral success in West Bengal.

As part of the summit, the Chief Minister felicitated minority youth who secured government jobs and students from minority residential schools who achieved top ranks in IIT, NEET and other competitive examinations. Ministers Azharuddin, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Government Advisor Shabbir Ali, MLAs, MLCs, corporation chairpersons and minority leaders attended the programme.

“Everyone should become a Revanth Reddy and protect the right to vote,” he said. Revanth Reddy said he had reached the position of Chief Minister with the support of people from all communities and reiterated that his government would work for their welfare without discrimination.
