Horticulture Dept to hold terrace gardening training

In a bid to promote healthy living and self-reliance in vegetable cultivation, the state Department of Horticulture will organise a training programme on 'terrace vegetable gardening' on December 28 at the Telangana Horticulture Training Institute in Red Hills area.

Vegetables play on important role in supplying adequate vitamins and minerals required for the human body. For a balanced diet, an adult should have an intake of 400 gms of vegetables per day (Tubers / root vegetables. 100g plus leafy green 100 gms other vegetables 200 gms) as per ICMR recommendation. Keeping in view of rapid urbanization, unavailability of required area main constraints for cultivation of vegetables, escalating vegetables prices, the horticulture department is organizing the said training programme.

According to Kamalaxmi, director of horticulture, the programme held under the "Mana Illu - Mana Kuragayalu" initiative, aims to create awareness on growing pesticide-free vegetables at home, improving nutrition, and reducing carbon emissions. The training will be conducted from 10 am to 1 pm with a registration fee of Rs.100.
