The Himachal Pradesh government has urged farmers to enrol in the crop insurance scheme by December 15 to safeguard their wheat crops for the Rabi 2025-26 season.

Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh, during a District-Level Monitoring Committee meeting under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme in Hamirpur, appealed to farmers and officials to widely publicize the scheme to ensure maximum participation.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Shashi Pal Atri said farmers can insure their wheat by paying a nominal premium of Rs 36 per canal, at a rate of 1.5%. In case of crop damage due to natural causes, losses will be compensated by Kshema General Insurance Company.

The meeting also reviewed the number of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) holders, currently at 45,810, and discussed strategies for banks to expand coverage. The DC directed banks, the Agriculture Department, and insurance firms to organize awareness camps to encourage more farmers to avail of crop insurance and loans.
