A 28-year-old man from Hyderabad was shot dead in North Philadelphia, USA, while making a pizza delivery. His grieving family has appealed to the Indian government to intervene with US authorities and expedite the process of bringing his mortal remains back to India. Anshul Kunchal, a resident of Gundlapochampally in Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad, had moved to the United States about four years ago for higher studies. He was working with a multinational company in North Philadelphia and took up weekend pizza delivery jobs to earn extra income.

According to his sister Tanvi, the killer placed a fake delivery order to lure Anshul to an abandoned area, where he was shot three times in the head and left on the road.“It was a trap. They took my brother and killed him. I don’t know what they gained out of it,” Tanvi told reporters at their residence in Medchal. She added that no belongings were missing from the scene, ruling out robbery as the motive. US media reports suggested that two masked individuals with backpacks were suspected in the shooting.

Tanvi also recalled that Anshul had been robbed earlier by a group of men who took his chain, phone, and cash. Describing her brother as a loving and joyful person, Tanvi said that he had not wanted to go to the US but was encouraged by the family. “This is a message to all parents sending their children to the US: do not send your kids there,” she urged. The family has requested the Indian government to take up the matter urgently with the US authorities for a thorough investigation and to arrange the early repatriation of Anshul’s body. The Consulate General of India in New York has expressed condolences to the family and stated that it is in touch with them regarding the case.
