India’s logistics sector will require an additional 47 lakh workers by 2030, highlighting the urgent need for large-scale skilling reforms and development of a digitally equipped workforce, the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSSC) said on Thursday.
The sector witnessed strong hiring momentum in 2025, registering a net employment growth of 10.8 per cent in the second half of the year. This growth reflects expanding activity across freight movement, warehousing, transportation and supply chain operations, even as the demand for skilled manpower continues to outpace supply.
Speaking at LogiMAT India 2026, LSSC Chief Executive Officer Ravikanth Yamarthy said the projected workforce requirement is driven by rapid growth in logistics infrastructure and increasing adoption of technology. He stressed that focused skilling initiatives and digital training are essential to meet future industry needs.
The Logistics Sector Skill Council has partnered with LogiMAT India to address the talent gap and strengthen India’s position as a global logistics talent hub.
The third edition of LogiMAT India 2026, a global exhibition on logistics, freight and transportation, began on Thursday at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, with over 350 global brands from 10 countries expected to participate.
Director General of Shipping Shyam Jagannathan emphasised the need to create more employment opportunities for women in logistics, stating that greater inclusion would accelerate the sector’s growth.
