The Indian Police Foundation (IPF), a leading law enforcement think tank, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Telangana Police for implementing the Internal Police Reforms Project in the state. Supported by the Azim Premji Foundation, the initiative is already underway in Tamil Nadu and Punjab. It aims to improve the police-public interface, enhance grievance redressal at the police station level, and foster responsive, citizen-centric policing.

Telangana DGP Jitender highlighted that the project will introduce best practices from other states, complementing existing efforts like ‘Mee Seva’, QR codes in police stations, the T-Safe app for women’s safety, and the Centre of Excellence initiative.

IPF President & CEO Om Prakash Singh emphasized the foundation's mission to improve policing through research, training, and policy reforms. State-level chapters of IPF are already active in five states, with further expansion planned. Telangana Police Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht, also the state nodal officer for the project, said the partnership represents a shared commitment to modern, people-focused policing.

The project will begin with 30 police stations—15 each in Cyberabad Commissionerate and Sangareddy district. It will include stakeholder consultations with victims, complainants, NGOs, and officials to identify key reform areas. Insights from consultations, best practices like e-FIR, and expert recommendations will form the basis of a reform blueprint. The project includes structured training and a one-year pilot, followed by third-party evaluation and potential statewide scaling.
