Indian Rlys OKs `13.64 bn for infra projects

The Indian Railways has approved projects worth ₹1,364 crore to strengthen safety, signalling, and communication infrastructure across multiple zones, according to a press release by the Ministry of Railways.

The approved works include the installation of Kavach train collision avoidance systems, the expansion of optical fibre communication networks, and the replacement of manual panel interlocking with electronic interlocking systems.

Kavach Version 4.0 will be installed on 232 locomotives of Southern Railway at a cost of ₹209 crore, as per the release.

Projects worth ₹401 crore have been sanctioned to strengthen the communication backbone of Northern Railway, including deployment of 48 fibre optic cable networks across Ambala, Delhi, and Lucknow divisions, covering over 3,200 km route. North Central Railway will see an investment of ₹177 crore for laying optical fibre cables over 2,196 km route spanning Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra divisions.

In South Central Railway, ₹578 crore has been approved to replace panel interlocking with electronic interlocking at 49 stations across high-density routes in Guntakal and Nanded divisions.
