Supreme Court judge Justice P.S. Narasimha emphasized the importance of mediation and modern technology for speedy case resolution. Speaking at the South Zone-2 Regional Conference in Visakhapatnam, he highlighted how ICT and AI can expedite judgments and called for greater transparency in mediation and arbitration.
The two-day conference, organized by the National Judicial Academy and Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy, featured dignitaries including AP High Court Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur and National Judicial Academy Director Justice Aniruddha Bose.
Justice Narasimha stressed the need to eliminate unnecessary delays in court proceedings caused by lengthy arguments and irrelevant petitions. He suggested adopting streamlined procedures to reduce the burden on the judiciary. Chief Justice Thakur underscored the need for public awareness of legal rights to strengthen trust in the judicial system. He pointed to the feasibility of achieving paperless courts, citing advancements like computer filing and AI services, and urged legal professionals to adapt to technological changes.
Justice Aniruddha Bose addressed the rising number of cases, noting that 37 lakh cases were filed last year and 4.5 crore cases are pending nationwide. Discussions during the conference focused on alternative dispute resolution methods and the role of e-services in bridging the digital divide. Justice Anu Sivaraman and Justice CM Joshi led sessions clarifying issues and addressing judges' queries.
Judges from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, along with district judges, legal authorities, and other dignitaries, participated in the event, which aimed to drive judicial reforms through technology and innovation.
