Senior journalist and Bhagavad Gita Foundation founder L Gangadhara Sastry’s father, Kashi Viswanatha Sharma (84), passed away on Monday afternoon. Born into a scholarly family in Avanigadda, Krishna district, Sharma moved to Hyderabad four decades ago to support his sons’ careers.

Expressing grief, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan lauded Sharma’s deep Vedic knowledge and personal encouragement to Sastry. Pawan Kalyan personally consoled Venugopal, while several dignitaries extended condolences.

His elder son, Gangadhara Sastry, served as a journalist with the Eenadu group before gaining fame as a playback singer and spiritual ambassador. He founded the Bhagavad Gita Foundation, composing and rendering all the Gita shlokas in his own melodies to promote its message worldwide.

Sharma’s younger son, L Venugopal, also excelled in journalism and currently serves as a Public Relations Officer for major construction firms and the Janasena Party. The final rites were held on Tuesday at Tarnaka cremation ground.
