Union Miniter G Kishan Reddy said Hyderabad has emerged as one of India's most important centres for technology, innovation and digital transformation, playing a pivotal role in the country's journey towards becoming a global technology powerhouse. Speaking at an event attended by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Hyderabad, he highlighted Hyderabad's contributions in semiconductor design, the indigenous Kavach railway safety system, advanced visual effects, animation and high technology filmmaking.
Kishan Reddy said India is moving beyond being merely a consumer of technology to becoming a sovereign technology nation that develops, manufactures and exports cutting edge technologies. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and Ashwini Vaishnaw's leadership for laying a strong technological foundation over the past decade.
Highlighting India's digital achievements, he said Aadhaar and UPI have become globally recognised digital public infrastructure platforms. Annual UPI transactions have increased from about two crore to over 24,162 crore, with transaction values exceeding Rs 314 lakh crore. He added that India has also developed digital public infrastructure for healthcare, agriculture, energy and telecommunications while successfully deploying indigenous 4G and 5G technologies.
The Union Minister said India's electronics manufacturing sector has grown into a Rs 13 lakh crore industry, while the country has become the world's third largest startup ecosystem with more than two lakh DPIIT recognised startups, over 125 unicorns and more than 23 lakh jobs created.
On infrastructure, Kishan Reddy said Hyderabad will become the hub for three of the country's seven proposed high speed rail corridors, strengthening connectivity with Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai. He said Secunderabad Railway Station is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 720 crore into a world class transport hub, while Nampally Railway Station is being modernised with an investment of Rs 350 crore. He also highlighted the Centre's investments in national highways, railway projects and the upcoming National Science Centre, asserting that Hyderabad will remain at the forefront of India's technology driven growth story.
Ashwini Vaishnaw urges IT sector to tap chip boom
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday urged the Indian IT industry to capitalise on the growing global demand for semiconductor talent, saying the sector faces a shortage of nearly one million skilled professionals worldwide.
Addressing IT industry representatives in Hyderabad, Vaishnaw said India’s semiconductor ecosystem is expanding rapidly due to the Centre’s initiatives, with 12 semiconductor plants currently at different stages of development. Three of these facilities have already started manufacturing chips, which are being exported to countries including Japan, the US and Europe. He said the government has provided advanced semiconductor design tools to 315 universities to strengthen talent development and support innovation.
Vaishnaw highlighted that electronics exports have emerged as the third-largest export category in India, while mobile phones have become the country’s largest exported product. The electronics manufacturing sector has crossed Rs 13 lakh crore and is expected to touch Rs 20 lakh crore soon, providing employment to around 25 lakh people.
He added that Telangana has benefited significantly from the Centre’s support, with 104 electronics manufacturing companies operating in the state and four major manufacturing clusters sanctioned. He also said Hyderabad would benefit from upcoming bullet train corridors connecting the city with Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru.
