London: An Indian-origin man was murdered in a knife attack in Southall, west London, the Metropolitan Police said. Gurbhej Singh, 26, was fatally stabbed on North Road near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane in the early hours of Wednesday. Another man in his 30s was also injured in the attack and was treated at a hospital before being discharged.
Despite efforts by medics, Gurbhej could not be saved.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command said detectives were continuing to investigate Singh’s death. She said Singh was assaulted outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane at around 12.30am on Wednesday and appealed for witnesses and CCTV clip.
Seven men, aged between their early 20s and late 30s, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. Following enquiries, six were released with no action, while one was released on bail.
Singh’s family is being supported by specialist officers.
Gurbhej Singh hailed from Mehdipur village in Punjab's Tarn Taran. His family said, “Gurbhej had an altercation with some Punjabi people at an eatery. After leaving the place, he was attacked by the group, who slit his throat with a sharp weapon. He died at a hospital on Thursday morning.” A Class XII passout, Gurbhej had moved to the UK in 2022 after his family spent nearly `24 lakh through an immigration agent. –Agencies
