KTR accuses Revanth of pushing out L&T

BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over the mishandling of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, squarely blaming him for pushing L&T out of Hyderabad Metro Rail, considered one of the state’s flagship infrastructure initiative.

KTR recalled that Hyderabad Metro Rail was originally conceptualized during Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure, with the PPP model later awarded to L&T by the Congress government. By the time Telangana was formed in 2014, around 20% of the work was underway. With Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership and confidence-building measures, the project was completed in record time, with Phase-I inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 29, 2017. Hyderabad soon became home to India’s largest metro rail network, easing urban congestion and positioning the city as a global hub.

He pointed out that expansion plans, including direct connectivity to the international airport and a 400 km network, were also readied under the BRS government. However, once the Congress government came to power, the Airport expansion project was shelved altogether, impacting L&T as well.

Accusing the present Congress regime of arrogance and irresponsibility, KTR said: “Instead of nurturing PPP frameworks, Revanth Reddy’s autocratic style and reckless decisions forced L&T to absorb unsustainable losses for over a decade. Now, Telangana’s people are saddled with a ₹15,000 crore liability because of his shortsightedness.”

“Because of Revanth Reddy’s ego and lack of vision, Hyderabad has lost an international company and its credibility in global infrastructure circles. What should have been a revenue-sharing model with 50% of earnings through tickets and rentals is now a massive financial burden on taxpayers,” KTR asserted.

KTR further alleged that a major scam is looming in the 280 acres of prime commercial real estate developed by L&T near metro stations. “This land bank was originally meant to ensure project viability. With L&T’s exit, we strongly suspect that Revanth Reddy and his associates are eyeing this land for vested interests. This could be one of the biggest urban land scams in Hyderabad’s history,” he warned.

He linked the issue to the Medigadda barrage collapse, stating: “When Medigadda developed cracks, L&T came forward to repair the structure at its own cost. But shockingly, Revanth Reddy opposed this, proving that his government is more interested in politics than in safeguarding Telangana’s irrigation lifeline.” The BRS Working President demanded that the Union government immediately order an inquiry into the circumstances behind L&T’s exit and the fate of the valuable commercial land parcels. “Hyderabad’s commuters and taxpayers are paying the price for the Congress government’s failures, arrogance, and hidden agendas,” he said.
