On the occasion of World Heart Day, KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet, organized an awareness program focused on heart diseases and modern surgical treatments. Doctors from the Heart Institute participated in the event, which included a cake-cutting ceremony.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” Dr. Sridhar Kasturi, Head of Cardiology, emphasized the importance of heart health, noting that the human heart beats approximately 2.5 billion times from fetal development to old age.
He revealed that over 1.7 crore people die annually from heart-related conditions, 80% of which are preventable through early diagnosis, timely treatment, and lifestyle changes.
Dr. Sridhar identified key risk factors including diabetes, smoking, microplastics, pollution, and stress. He also warned of the rising incidence of heart disease among youth, driven by poor diet, lack of physical activity, and mental stress. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote preventive heart care.
