KTR terms HYDRAA as a tool for political revenge

03-11-2025 12:00:00 AM

BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised the Congress government for implementing 'bulldozer justice' in Hyderabad under the guise of the HYDRAA initiative. He claimed that the HYDRAA campaign had become a tool for political revenge, disproportionately affecting the poor while exempting the wealthy and influential.

KT Rama Rao vowed to support those affected by HYDRAA, stating that the BRS government would advocate for them in court, within the Assembly, and through protests, to ensure they receive justice. He promised that if they do not find relief, the BRS would regain power in a few years and provide them with shelter.

"We have not harmed anyone in the past decade. Give us 500 days. The KCR government will return and deliver justice to all HYDRAA victims. I take personal responsibility," KT Rama Rao affirmed.

In a media presentation and a meeting with HYDRAA victims at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, the  BRS working president criticised the Congress government for making the principle of equal justice for all a mere mockery.

"Yet, in just two years under Congress, all we witness are demolitions," he remarked. KT Rama Rao claimed that the Revanth Reddy administration has turned Hyderabad into a zone for demolitions, where bulldozers specifically target the poor. While the homes of the less fortunate are destroyed overnight, the illegal residences of Ministers and Congress leaders remain untouched.

"When Minister Ponguleti encroached upon a tank and constructed a house, or when Revanth Reddy’s brother Tirupati Reddy built within the Full Tank Level of Durgam Lake, why weren't those structures demolished? Is there a different set of laws for the wealthy compared to the impoverished?" he inquired.

Rama Rao also mentioned a number of Congress leaders who are reportedly involved in lake encroachments, including Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and G Vivek, Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, and MLA Arekapudi Gandhi. He urged the government to take action against them. "HYDRAA lacks the resolve to address these individuals. Demolition efforts cease where political influence begins," he stated.

Highlighting the struggles of everyday citizens, the former Minister noted that families have been evicted from their homes in the middle of the night. "Pregnant women have been displaced, children have gone without food, and school buildings have been demolished with no prior warning. Yet this government continues to hold lavish meetings under the guise of justice," he expressed, showing images of the affected individuals.

KT Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for being hypocritical. He noted, “While in opposition, Revanth condemned demolitions as inhumane. Now, he is doing even worse. He previously stated that the mistakes of the poor should be met with empathy and their land should be regularized. So, why is he now using bulldozers against them?”
