KTR warns of fresh agitation over Telangana’s water rights

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has warned that his party would launch another agitation if Telangana’s interests in river water sharing were compromised. He questioned how Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy would participate in the upcoming GRMB meeting if its agenda was against Telangana’s interests and urged the government to boycott the meeting if necessary.He further alleged that the Revanth Reddy was functioning at the behest of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Referring to developments in the Palamuru region, KTR claimed that the government had switched on irrigation pumps in Mahabubnagar district only after the BRS threatened to mobilize lakhs of farmers. KTR also criticized the government over the alleged lifting of water through the Pothireddypadu project after heavy rains. KTR  alleged that agricultural consumers were not receiving uninterrupted 24-hour power supply despite the state having sufficient electricity. He challenged the government to identify any substation where farmers were receiving uninterrupted power supply and claimed that power cuts were occurring several times a day in different areas.

Reacting to observations made by the Telangana High Court, KTR said the court’s comments reflected what he described as the government’s administrative failure and the Chief Minister’s inability to handle the situation effectively. He alleged that the government had transformed HYDRA from an organization intended to protect people from disasters into an agency that was creating difficulties for ordinary citizens.

KTR alleged that the government’s HILT policy could cause massive financial losses to the state and said the BRS would campaign against the policy. KTR further alleged irregularities involving TDR rights and claimed that land-related policies, including LRS, were being implemented contrary to promises made by Congress leaders before the elections.  KTR also criticized the government’s handling of land records and alleged that the Dharani system had merely been renamed while similar practices continued. He accused the government of manipulating land records and making properties available for private interests
