The Nampally Special Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to former Kodangal MLA and BRS leader Patnam Narender Reddy, along with 23 others, in connection with the Lagacharla attacks case. The accused have been in judicial custody for the past month.
The case pertains to an alleged attack on Vikarabad district officials on November 11, 2024, in Lagacharla village, where they had gone to conduct a public consultation for establishing a pharmaceutical industry. Protesters used sticks and stones to attack the government officials who had to run for their lives. Following the attack, multiple arrests were made, including that of Patnam Narender Reddy, who was detained while on a morning walk in Hyderabad.
The court granted bail with conditions. Narender Reddy was told to furnish a surety of Rs 50,000 and two guarantors, while the other accused require Rs 20,000 surety and one guarantor each. Additionally, all accused were told to appear for weekly hearings for three months.
Defense lawyers argued that the arrested individuals were unrelated to the attack and accused authorities of arbitrary detentions. Despite presenting electronic evidence, the prosecution could not establish clear involvement and hence the bail orders were issued.
