BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha on Tuesday accused the ruling Congress of manipulating votes, intimidating voters, and deploying unruly groups throughout the Jubilee Hills constituency amid the ongoing byelection.
She called on voters to turn out in significant numbers and cast their ballots to prevent criminals from taking control of the area. In her statements to the media, Sunitha noted that voters were facing threats, discouraging them from leaving their homes unless they planned to support the Congress party.
“Rowdy individuals are moving about without consequence. People are being warned that they cannot go outside if they do not vote for Congress. Is this what we call democracy?” she questioned, emphasizing the need for the police to act without bias.
The BRS leader expressed her concern about being followed by groups of men, characterising this behavior as an assault on women's dignity and an attempt to instill fear. Sunitha also expressed her disapproval of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and MLA Beerla Ilaiah for remaining in the constituency despite the enforcement of the model code of conduct.
She questioned, “What is the Election Commission doing while non-local Congress leaders and troublemakers are freely operating here?” Sunitha accused Congress leaders of bribing voters by distributing biryani packets containing concealed amounts of Rs 5,000 in cash. “People are living in fear, but after the 14th, I will expose each of these troublemakers,” she cautioned.
