PM Modi attributed the NDA win in Bihar to his new MY formula, which stands for Mahila and Youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the people of Bihar have “voted for a developed and prosperous state by breaking all records,” as he addressed supporters at the BJP headquarters.
"In Bihar, some people had created a MY formula based on appeasement, but today’s victory has introduced a new positive MY formula - which stands for Mahila (women) and Youth," he said.
The Bihar 2025 election results reveal a clear pattern: in districts where the share of women voters exceeded that of men, the National Democratic Alliance’s vote share is considerably higher than the Mahagathbandhan’s. The contest between the two alliances was somewhat closer, as the vote share gap narrowed significantly in districts where the share of men and women voters were nearly the same or men outnumbered women.
One of the signature welfare measures implemented by the Nitish Kumar led NDA government in Bihar was the cash disbursal of Rs 10,000 to women across the State via the Mukhyamanthri Mahila Rozgar Yojana.
PM Modi also reiterated what he had stressed throughout the campaign: “When I spoke about jungle raj and kattas, RJD never opposed it — only Congress was hurt… Katta sarkar will never be back.” While exit polls had predicted the NDA's victory, no one anticipated that the allies would collectively be on course to breach the 200-mark, setting the stage for one of the most historic mandates for the alliance.
Victory of good governance: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday termed the NDA's landslide win in the Bihar assembly elections as a victory of good governance, development and the spirit of public welfare and social justice. In a series of posts on X, Modi also congratulated the BJP's alliance partners -- Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, LJP-RV supremo Chirag Paswan, HAM leader Jitan Ram Manjhi and RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha.
"Deepest gratitude to my family members of Bihar, who have blessed the NDA with a historic and unprecedented victory in the 2025 assembly elections," Modi said. The prime minister said the resounding public mandate will empower the NDA to serve the people and work with new resolve for Bihar.
Jan Suraaj Party a damp squib
The Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) led by Prashant Kishor, launched with great hype did not live up to expectations. Speculations abounded over vote split and that the newbie would make a dent in Bihar politics. Mr. Kishor’s aggressive press conferences and allegations against senior leaders of both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituents and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were a talking point. It drew a blank on ambitious debut in Bihar Assembly elections.
Congress goes weaker
Congress’ poor performance continued in 2025. In the 2020 elections, the party had recorded the lowest contested vote share and strike rate among the alliance’s major partners. Congress’ strike rate in the 2025 polls was 9.8%, the lowest among all Mahagatbandhan alliance partners once again, though the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation’s strike rate was only slightly higher at around 10%. The Congress’ strike rate has fallen from over 27% in 2020 and over 22% in 2024.
In contrast, the BJP’s strike rate rose sharply from around 65% in both 2020 and 2024 to over 90% in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. The JD(U), too, improved its strike rate from 74% in 2024 to more than 82% in 2025.
Another indicator of this decline is the contested vote share — the percentage of votes a party secures in the constituencies it contests. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, the Congress’ contested vote share of 34.1% was lower than the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s 38.9%. It is also lower than the CPI (ML)(L)’s contested vote share of 35.8%. Moreover, the Congress’ contested vote share has declined from the 41.2% it recorded in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
‘My father would be blessing the party’
Following LJP (Ram Vilas’s) impressive performance in Bihar Assembly polls, the young politician said that father would be extremely happy wherever he is, and that he "would be blessing the party workers, and impressed with all our hard work."
He later attributed the "arrogance" of the Tejaswai Yadav-Rahul Gandhi-led opposition alliance for its thumping defeat and stated that the people's "faith in the unity of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners" was the reason behind their convincing win.
"I firmly believe that Nitish Kumar will remain the Bihar chief minister. Arrogance is the cause for the opposition's humiliating loss and it is the sole factor that led to its downfall," Paswan told reporters.
"Our overwhelming victory is on account of the strength of the double-engine government which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and our chief minister Nitish Kumar in the state," he said.
