Medicover doctors urge women to make informed contraceptive choice

Contraception is not just about preventing pregnancy. It is about protecting a woman’s health, her future fertility and her right to decide if and when she wants to have children, said senior gynecologists at Medicover Woman & Child Hospital, HITEC City, at a press meet held today to mark World Contraception Day In Telangana, the previous round of the survey (NFHS-5) found that 61.9 per cent of married women had opted for sterilization, among the highest rates in the country, while reversible spacing methods remained far less used.

“There is no single contraceptive that is right for every woman,” said Dr. Radhika  Sr. Consultant , Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Medicover Woman & Child Hospital, HITEC City. The doctors clarified that the risk of infection is small and largely limited to the first few weeks after insertion, the risk of displacement or injury to the uterus is very low when a trained provider inserts it, and fertility returns promptly after removal.

They also urged men to take equal responsibility for family planning, noting that male sterilization is a simpler, quicker outpatient procedure than female sterilization.
