Medicover Hospitals successfully removed a massive 5kg neck tumor, a recurrent lymphangioma that had plagued the patient for over 25 years. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries in 2010, 2015, and 2025, the tumor had returned each time, causing progressive difficulties with neck movement and breathing.
Lymphangioma, a rare vascular malformation, involves the abnormal growth of lymphatic and blood vessels. Its recurrence, combined with its proximity to critical neck structures, makes surgical removal highly challenging and risky.
A dedicated team of specialists led by Dr. Rahul Lakshminarayanan, Senior Vascular Surgeon, performed the five-hour reconstructive surgery. Along with Dr. Venkat Pavan, Consultant General Surgeon, and Dr. Venugopal, from the Anesthesiology Department, the team navigated dense scar tissue and delicate surrounding structures to remove the tumor safely.
Dr. Lakshminarayanan remarked, ‘This case was technically demanding due to the recurrence and complexity of the tumor’s location. Through precise planning and advanced imaging, we achieved a successful outcome with no complications.’
The patient’s recovery was swift, and he was discharged just three days later, now enjoying full neck mobility without weakness. He shared his relief, urging others to seek professional medical care without delay.
