Hyderabad: Highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention in road accidents, Dr. Shashi Vardhan, Consultant Trauma & Joint Replacement Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals, Chandanagar, said the first hour after an accident is critical.
Doctors at Medicover Hospitals, Chandanagar, successfully saved the life of a 58-year-old woman who sustained multiple life-threatening injuries after being hit by a heavy vehicle while crossing the road in the Isnapur area. She suffered severe chest trauma with multiple rib fractures, lung injury, splenic rupture, pelvic fractures, and major fractures of the right thigh and leg bones. She was rushed to the hospital in an extremely critical condition.
Doctors performed an emergency splenectomy to control the bleeding. The surgery was led by Dr. Barji Sai Dilip, Consultant General, Laser & Laparoscopic Surgeon, with anesthetic support from Dr. Swetha Rapolu, Consultant Anesthesiologist.
After stabilization, advanced minimally invasive orthopedic procedures were performed to fix the fractured leg bones using rods and plates. The patient was closely monitored in the ICU under Dr. Raju Sikilammetla, Consultant Intensivist, and required ventilator and oxygen support for several days.
With continuous multidisciplinary care, she recovered steadily and was discharged in a stable, healthy condition.
