Hyderabad Traffic Police has intensified its efforts against wrong-side driving, booking a staggering 21,713 cases in the first week of February 2026 (February 2–9). The special drive aims to curb one of the city’s most dangerous traffic violations, which not only disrupts traffic flow but also significantly increases the risk of accidents.
Wrong-side driving, defined as driving against the designated direction of traffic, has become a major concern for authorities. “It is a serious threat to the safety of all road users and a leading cause of accidents in the city,” said D. Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Hyderabad. Violators were penalized under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
In addition to enforcement, Hyderabad Traffic Police is running awareness programs to educate commuters on road safety and responsible driving. Citizens are encouraged to follow traffic rules and report violations through official channels on Facebook, X (Twitter), or via the Traffic Helpline (9010203626) and e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
Authorities emphasized that avoiding wrong-side driving is crucial not only for personal safety but also for the safety of fellow commuters, urging the public to cooperate in making Hyderabad’s roads safer.
