Medicover launches indigenous knee preservation implant

In a significant advancement in knee joint preservation surgery, an indigenously developed High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) implant has been successfully used in a young patient at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District, offering a ‘Made-in-India’ solution for preserving the natural knee.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Raghuveer Reddy, Senior Joint Preservation & Sports Injury Surgeon. The implant was used in a 28-year-old medical doctor suffering from cartilage damage and knee mal-alignment. He underwent High Tibial Osteotomy combined with Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) and is recovering well following the procedure.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Raghuveer Reddy mentioned that while not every painful knee needs replacement, joint replacement is an excellent treatment for advanced arthritis. “If abnormal alignment is the underlying cause, correcting that alignment is critical to protecting the joint in the long term,” he added.

What is high Tibial Osteotomy?

High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO)  is a joint preservation procedure in which the upper part of the tibia, or shin bone, is precisely realigned to redistribute body weight away from the damaged portion of the knee towards healthier cartilage. This helps reduce stress on the damaged area, improve function and preserve the natural knee.
