Doctors at Medicover Hospitals, Chandanagar successfully performed bilateral total knee replacement surgery on a 75-year-old, helping him return to an active and pain-free life. Raghavendra, a resident of Hyderabad, had been suffering from severe osteoarthritis in both knees for several years. The condition had progressively worsened, making simple daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and getting up from a chair extremely painful and challenging.

After a comprehensive evaluation and careful medical optimization, the Orthopedics team led by Dr. Sashivardhan, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals, Chandanagar recommended bilateral total knee replacement surgery. The procedure was performed successfully and with structured rehabilitation and physiotherapy, the patient’s recovery progressed smoothly. Within a month, he was able to walk independently without any external support, significantly improving his quality of life.

In a touching gesture, Raghavendra donated the walker he had used during his early recovery period back to the hospital so that it could benefit another patient beginning a similar journey. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sashivardhan mentioned that modern joint replacement techniques, enhanced pain management protocols, early mobilization, and personalized rehabilitation have made it possible for even elderly patients with associated medical conditions to achieve excellent outcomes.

Doctors emphasized that severe knee arthritis should not be accepted as an inevitable part of ageing. Patients experiencing persistent knee pain, stiffness, and mobility limitations should seek timely consultation with an orthopedic specialist to understand the treatment options available.
