The popular actor Chiranjeevi’s comments that he felt like a ‘ladies hostel’ warden and wishing to have a grandson to carry the family lineage did not sit well with the internet as citizens slammed the actor for a narrow and patriarchal mindset. The remarks made at the Brahma Anandam pre-release event have stirred a hornet's nest.

Chiranjeevi jokingly remarked that he felt like "a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by several girls at home". With a playful smile, he added, "I hope Charan (his actor-son Ram Charan) has a boy this time to carry forward our legacy. He adores his daughter, but I worry he might have another girl again. Lovely kids!" Ram Charan is currently blessed with a baby girl.

During his speech at the event, Chiranjeevi said, “Whenever I stay at home, I don’t feel like spending time with my granddaughters. Instead, I often feel like a ladies' hostel warden. I always keep wishing and telling son Ram Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues.”

Ram Charan and wife Upasana welcomed a baby girl, Klin Kaara, in June 2023. Apart from son Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela. Sreeja has two daughters, Naviksha and Nivrati; as does Sushmita - her daughters are Samara and Samhitha.

Some fans said that he made the remark in a light hearted manner but it did not go well with many. A user said, "Dear Chiranjeevi garu, I have respect for you as an actor. However, I would appreciate some clarification on your recent statement. It came across as misogynistic and seemed to imply that a legacy can only be carried forward by a male child or men.

Did you truly mean to suggest this? Are you uncomfortable with the possibility of your son and daughter-in-law having another girl child? Or was it “remark” made in “jest” at Brahmanandam’s film event? [sic]," another user wrote.
