Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) achieved a new milestone in the energy sector by acquiring a 250-megawatt lignite-based power plant located at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu.

The company announced that its subsidiary, MEIL Energy Private Limited, has completed the purchase of a 100% stake in TAQA Neyveli Power Company Private Limited from Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA).

The acquisition marks a strategic step in MEIL’s evolution from being a leading EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor to an integrated infrastructure developer engaged in the development, ownership, and management of core assets.

The Neyveli plant, with an installed capacity of 250 MW, operates on lignite fuel and has a long-term power purchase agreement with the Tamil Nadu state power distribution company. The facility has a strong operational track record, providing reliable electricity to meet the state’s growing energy demand.

With this acquisition, MEIL’s total power generation capacity has crossed 5.2 gigawatts, further strengthening its position in India’s energy landscape.

Commenting on the development, MEIL Group Chief Financial Officer Salil Kumar Mishra said, ‘This acquisition represents a key milestone in our journey to expand our portfolio of high-quality power assets. It reflects our commitment to reliable energy supply, national energy security, and sustainable growth.’

MEIL has already made substantial investments in power, oil and gas, renewable, infrastructure, and manufacturing, and continues to explore opportunities that contribute to India’s energy independence and economic stability.
