The Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) has achieved a remarkable milestone by bagging four state-level honours at the prestigious Swachh Andhra Awards, setting a new benchmark in urban poverty alleviation and community engagement.

Among the accolades, MEPMA stood out with the Best Social Media Management Award, beating 18 other government departments. The award was conferred for the mission’s effective use of digital platforms to promote Swachh Andhra themes through high-quality content, creative campaigns, consistent postings, and impactful public engagement.

In addition, MEPMA secured three State Swachh SLF-level Awards in competitions focused on terrace gardening and home composting. The honours went to Self-Help Group federations from Prakasam, Srikakulam, and Visakhapatnam districts, highlighting grassroots contributions to sustainable urban living.

The awards ceremony will be held on Monday, October 6, at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, where Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will personally present the awards. MEPMA Mission Director N. Tej Bharat, will receive the Social Media Award on behalf of the organisation.

Expressing pride in the achievement, Tej Bharat credited the success to the collective efforts of the MEPMA team and thousands of urban self-help groups. “These awards reflect the vision and guidance of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana and the constant support of Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar. The recognition belongs to the dedicated teams working on the ground,” he said.

The Swachh Andhra Awards, instituted to honour best practices in sanitation, innovation, and citizen participation, are seen as a benchmark for sustainable urban development.
