Currently, the minimum fare in the Metro rail is Rs 10 and the maximum fare is Rs 60. According to the Metro rail management, if the fares are increased in the next few weeks, it is likely to increase to Rs 80 to Rs 85

Here is a big shocking news for Metro Rail passengers. The Metro rail fares are going to increase within a week. L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail is working towards this end. It is reported that a key decision on the increase in the Metro fares will be taken in a meeting to be held on the 8th of this month and it is possible that the increased Metro fares will come into effect from May 10.

It is reported that the Metro rail management is planning to increase the ticket rates without the permission of the State government. The Metro rail officials believe that the Metro is running at a loss and increasing fares is the way to get out of the losses. The financial burden on the Metro rail management has started due to the decrease in the number of the Metro passengers for a year during Corona virus pandemic. It is reported that the burden has now reached to Rs 6,598 crore.

However, the Metro rail management has been requesting the State government for some time to grant permission to increase Metro rail fares. It is reported that CM Revanth Reddy has made it clear that he will not increase the Metro rail fares for now. With this, it seems that the Metro rail is planning to increase the fares using its discretionary power without the permission of the State government.

It seems that the Metro rail is preparing to revise the rates as per the Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. According to the act, the Metro Rail Administration (MRA) has the power to decide the initial charges. However, it is reported that the charges will be higher this time. The Metro rail officials are preparing to increase the current prices by 20 to 25 percent.

Currently, the minimum fare in the Metro rail is Rs 10 and the maximum fare is Rs 60. According to the Metro rail management, if the fares are increased in the next few weeks, it is likely to increase to Rs 80 to Rs 85. The L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation is working to earn an additional Rs 150 crore annually through the increased fares.
