After a day-long drama and questions whether YSRCP MP Midhun Reddy would be arrested or not ended with his arrest on Saturday night. Named in the alleged ₹3,200 crore Andhra Pradesh liquor scam to have taken place during the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime in Andhra Pradesh, Midhun Reddy was taken into custody after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials grilled him for over six hours.
It is learnt that the preliminary charge sheet, which is said to be of 300 pages long has 100 forensic lab reports and data related to electronic devices attached to it. A total of Rs 62 crore has been seized, officials said. According to the chargesheet, 268 witnesses have been examined. Statements of 11 people,
remand reports and other documents were attached to it. SIT officials told the court that another charge sheet would be filed in 20 days. The preliminary charge sheet revealed that liquor kickbacks came through shell companies and were converted from black to white. MP Midhun Reddy would be produced before the trial court on the early hours of Sunday. The SIT has found that Midhun Reddy played a key role in the Rs 3,500-crore liquor scam. Officials have confirmed that he was involved in making changes in the liquor policy, collecting kickbacks from distilleries and hawala transactions. A total of 12 people have been arrested by the SIT in the case so far.
It may be noted that on July 18, the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. Earlier, the SIT of the Andhra Pradesh CID, which has accused him of policy manipulation and collusion in the procurement of liquor contracts, immediately applied for an arrest warrant in Vijayawada.
