State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao participated in a video conference held on Monday with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. During the meeting, Minister Tummala urged the Centre to grant immediate approval for the procurement of crops under the Price Support Scheme (PSS).
He requested that the Central Government permit the purchase of moong and urad crops at 100 percent, and soybean crops up to 50 percent, under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme in Telangana. He emphasized that timely procurement would help protect farmers from distress sales and ensure fair returns for their produce.
Minister Tummala also reiterated his request to include maize and sorghum crops under the Price Support Scheme, stating that these crops are vital for farmers in several districts of the state. The video conference was also attended by the Agriculture Department Director, the Marketing Department Director, and the Managing Director of TSMARKFED, who supported the minister’s representations and highlighted the importance of early approvals for smooth procurement operations.
