Eagle IG AK Ravi Krishna warned on Sunday that life is precious and wrong things like drugs can destroy life completely .A cycle rally called "No Drugs, Bro - Cycle Ride Bro (Eagle)" was organized in Guntur to create awareness among the people about the ill-effects of drug abuse in the spirit of "Fit India” program. IG AK Ravi Krishna, District Collector A Tamim Ansaria, SP Vakul Jindal and Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu were present on the occasion.
The rally was organized with placards, slogans and songs highlighting the ills of drug abuse. Speaking on the occasion, Eagle IG AK Ravi Krishna said that students and youth who have a bright future are getting imprisoned in drugs related cases due to lack of awareness due to which their families are suffering.
He cautioned that the NDPS Act, which has been enacted to curb the use of drugs, is very stringent and once caught using drugs, the culprits are punished with imprisonment ranging from 10 to 20 years. He said that they will lose their job opportunities and will not be able to go abroad.
District Collector A Tamim Ansaria said that the government will conduct widespread awareness programs on the ill effects of drug abuse for students and youth who are more likely to be addicted She also said that good physical fitness helps to calm the mind and stay away from addictions like drugs and urged the youth to take up cycling regularly.
District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal said strict action is being taken against those who use and sell drugs. He urged those knowing anything about illegal activities such as use, sale and supply of cannabis should immediately report to the toll free number 1972 or dial 112 or the local police and assured that their details are kept confidential.
