District Collector Borkhade Hemanth Sahadeo Rao has directed the district administration to remain fully prepared to effectively tackle heavy rainfall, flash floods and other disaster situations during the monsoon season. He stressed the need for advance planning and coordinated action by all departments to minimize loss of life and property. The Collector, along with Superintendent of Police Sudhir Ramnath Kekan, chaired a review meeting with district-level officials at the collectorate on Monday to assess preparedness for heavy rains, flash floods and disaster management.

During the meeting, officials reviewed precautionary measures and the readiness of various departments to respond to emergencies. The Collector instructed them to identify families living in flood-prone areas well in advance and ensure that they receive three months' worth of ration rice during July itself. He also directed Panchayat Secretaries to prepare lists of houses vulnerable to flooding within their respective villages.

Special attention should be given to identifying pregnant women and elderly residents so that arrangements can be made to shift them to safer locations whenever necessary. The Collector emphasized the need to identify and continuously monitor low-level culverts, streams, the Godavari river basin, and other vulnerable routes across the district.

The Collector also instructed officials to identify rehabilitation centres in advance and ensure that they are equipped with essential facilities, including safe drinking water, food, sanitation, medical services, bleaching powder, lime, and anti-larval chemicals. He further directed Disaster Response Force (DDRF) teams to remain on standby in Medaram and Eturnagaram. Boats, life jackets, nylon ropes and other rescue equipment should be pre-positioned at key mandal headquarters under a decentralized strategy to enable quick emergency response.
