Musk lives in 400 sqft Texas home

Elon Musk may have become the world’s first trillionaire, but his primary residence remains a modest 400sqft prefabricated house near SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas.

After relocating to Texas in 2020, Musk sold most of his California properties and has repeatedly said he prefers living close to work. In a 2021 post on X, he revealed that his main home is a house worth about $50,000, which he rents from SpaceX.

Built by housing startup Boxabl, the compact home measures 20 feet by 20 feet and includes a living area, kitchen, bedroom space and bathroom. The minimalist lifestyle aligns with Musk’s reputation for prioritising work over comfort. His biographer Walter Isaacson dubbed the residence a “spartan” home where Musk often conducted business calls. His mother Maye Musk has spoken about the home’s sparse amenities, underscoring the billionaire’s unusually simple living arrangements.
