Former Chief Justice of India Justice N.V. Ramana made a startling revelation on Saturday, alleging that criminal cases were filed against his family members during the tenure of the previous Andhra Pradesh government.

Speaking at the 5th convocation ceremony of VIT University in Amaravati, where he was the chief guest, Justice Ramana said he and his family were unfairly targeted for political reasons. “During the previous regime, not just I, but even my family members were made targets. False criminal cases were fabricated against them,” he said.

His comments have triggered widespread discussion across political and legal circles, as they come from one of the country’s most respected judicial figures.

Justice Ramana also spoke at length about the struggles and sacrifices of farmers who gave up their lands for the construction of Amaravati, the planned state capital. He said the foundation of Amaravati stood on the hard work and dedication of these farmers. “Since independence, no group has fought for a capital city with such determination. The farmers of Amaravati deserve recognition for their sacrifice and faith in the judicial system during difficult times,” he said.
