In a major anti-narcotics operation, Nalgonda police arrested two persons involved in an interstate ganja smuggling racket and seized 104.5 kg of ganja worth nearly Rs 52.5 lakh. An Ashok Leyland lorry used for transportation and two mobile phones were also confiscated.

Addressing the media, District SP Sharath Chandra Pawar said the operation was carried out by Kethepally police as part of intensified measures against drug trafficking in the district. Acting on specific information, police conducted vehicle checks near the Korlapahad Toll Plaza and intercepted a suspicious lorry.

During inspection, the accused allegedly attempted to flee but were immediately apprehended. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 103 ganja packets concealed in four plastic sacks. The packets were wrapped in brown tape and weighed around one kilogram each.

Police said the accused confessed that the contraband was procured from forest regions of Ganjam district and was being transported to Mumbai. Three more accused are absconding, and special teams have been formed to trace and arrest them.

The SP warned that strict action would continue against drug networks operating in the district.
