National Awards crown the best

Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty share Best Actor honour, while Yami Gautam wins Best Actress

The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on Saturday at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty shared the Best Actor award for Chandu Champion and Bramayugam, respectively.

Yami Gautam was named Best Actress for Article 370, while Kalki 2898 AD won Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Srikanth – Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne, starring RajKummar Rao, was named Best Hindi Film. Director Sukumar won the Best Screenplay award for Pushpa 2, while Shashwat Sachdev received Best Music Direction for Article 370. Kalki 2898 AD also won Best Production Design, while Stree 2 was honoured with Best Choreography.

The awards recognise excellence in Indian cinema for 2024 and were announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The winners were selected by an 11-member Central Jury chaired by acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj, following the evaluation of entries from across the country. The awards are organised by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) and honour artistic and technical excellence in Indian cinema through a structured jury process.

Mammootty claims honour for the fourth time

Mammootty won his fourth National Award for Best Actor for his haunting performance in Bramayugam. The Malayalam superstar impressed critics and audiences as Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan’s psychological horror film. With this win, he equalled Amitabh Bachchan’s record for the most Best Actor honours at the National Film Awards.
