HYDRAA Chief A.V. Ranganath visits Kamuni cheruvu & Maisamma cheruvu, orders action against new encroachments Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited Kamuni Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu today and issued directives to protect the lakes and address encroachments. The commissioner emphasized that only structures built after July 2024 will be demolished.

He added even if they are legal or illegal, structures predating this period will remain untouched. He assured local Raghavendra Colony dwellers that no action will be initiated against old structures.

During the visit, Commissioner Ranganath ordered officials to remove any recent encroachments and take measures to protect the lake bunds.

He also instructed Vasavi Sarovar developers not to proceed with construction unless a 17-metre-wide nala, as mandated, is constructed. The nala serves as a critical link between Kamuni Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu, ensuring proper water flow between the lakes. He said HMDA is developing the walking track around the lake.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials clarified that earth movers and lorries had been deployed to remove water hyacinth weeds from the lakes.

However, in the process, part of the lake bund was accidentally removed. Officials assured that corrective action would be taken immediately to preserve the bund while continuing efforts to clear the invasive water hyacinth.
