The paddy procurement process for the Rabi (Yasangi) season is progressing swiftly across the Telangana state. As of May 12, the government has procured 43.10 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, completing 61.45% of the targeted procurement.
This marks a significant rise compared to the same period in 2023–24 (29.88 lakh MT) and 2022–23 (19.62 lakh MT). The government has set up 8,245 procurement centres this season, up from 7,178 last year, to handle the increased yield.
According to agricultural department estimates, paddy was cultivated in a record 60.14 lakh acres this Rabi season, and the total production is expected to reach 1.29 crore metric tonnes. The government estimates that 70.13 lakh metric tonnes will be brought to the procurement centres. So far, 6.58 lakh farmers have sold their paddy, valued at nearly Rs. 9,999 crore. Of this, Rs. 6,671 crore has already been paid directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
