Indi Didn’t Go
Passengers at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport faced major inconvenience on Friday as IndiGo’s nationwide disruptions spilled over into the city, causing long delays, cancellations and confusion at airline counters. More than 1,000 IndiGo flights have been cancelled across the country since 2 December, while many others continue to be delayed, leaving travellers frustrated and anxious.
At Hyderabad airport, hundreds of passengers were seen waiting in long queues, unsure whether their flights would operate. One passenger, who arrived at 5 a.m., said she was wrongly told by IndiGo staff that her flight had been cancelled. Despite showing her boarding pass, the staff allegedly insisted that the flight would not take off and advised her to return home.
A passenger said she later received a call from the boarding gate around 7 a.m., asking why she hadn’t boarded. “Somebody called me saying my flight was about to leave. I said I'd been sent back home by the IndiGo staff. How can such a mistake happen?” she said, adding that she suspected it could have been an attempt to adjust passengers from earlier disrupted flights or an overbooking issue. She had to return to the airport and stand again in a long queue to understand her status.
Meanwhile, IndiGo announced that it has cancelled all domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport on 5 December, adding further pressure on an already strained travel network.
In its statement, the airline said the disruptions were “unavoidable”, attributing them to technology issues, airport congestion and operational challenges. IndiGo said it is offering refreshments, alternate flights, hotel accommodation, assistance with baggage retrieval, or full refunds to affected passengers, depending on the situation.
